Androgyny and Me

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. (or possibly run for your life.) Thanks for visiting!

My wife wanted to make sure that I was being up front about who and what I am which I tried to do with the truthful but sorta vague things I put on my profiles. Most of you who know me are already pretty well-educated on the subjects of sex, gender and sexual orientation, but for those of you who are hopelessly confused this blog is for you.
First off, sex, gender, and sexual orientation are three separate things. Let that sink in. Sex is what you are biologically, gender is a mental image of who you are, and sexual orientation defines which sex and/or gender you find preferable for dating and mating. With me so far? Groovy, now lets try to make your head explode. Most people have been taught to believe that sex is one of two things, you’ve been lied to. Same thing goes for gender and sexual orientation. These three things have many more than two variables involved. Gender and sex tend to operate on a sliding scale with the opposites on either end. Everyone falls somewhere on that scale and it’s actually quite rare to meet people who are completely male or female when it comes to gender and sex. Sexual orientation works mostly like gender and sex with a few extra variables thrown in to muddle the issue even further. If you’ve read this far you’re probably starting to get something of a clue or you’re wanting very badly to rant at me about aberrant behavior and choice, with a little religious self-righteousness thrown in for moral higher ground. Struck a nerve did I?
To sum up and continue; Sex, gender, and sexual orientation are three separate things which are better defined by a sliding scale than as polar opposites. All three can be any combination of values and develop on their own. For example, you can be born physically male, be both male and female in gender, and have primarily heterosexual male sexual orientation with some of your sexual orientation also contributed by being partly female in gender. Kinda like me. There are a lot of things that are more easily understood when you can learn to accept what you see instead of what people tell you. Take a look around, you’ll see feminine men and masculine women of all sexual orientations. While you’re looking around ask yourself something. Why is it that “Tomboys” are just fine but “sissies” should be put to death? Odd really, 100 years ago women in pants were the ostracized ones. Hell, go back a little further and ALL acting roles were performed by men. Once upon a time, people who were of a balanced gender were respected and sought out for their more balanced view of things.
Take a look around you and really try to actually SEE. People like me are all around you and most of them are deathly afraid to admit even to themselves what they think and feel. They wind up trying to become things they aren’t and end up as a suicide or murder statistic. Be yourself and allow others to develop into what they ARE instead of what they think they should be.

society is like a jigsaw puzzle

Society makes me think of a jigsaw puzzle. Jigsaw puzzles are a combination of many differently shaped and colored pieces which all fit together to form a cohesive whole. Unfortunately, people keep cutting bits off some of the pieces or just throwing them away completely. Jigsaws don’t really work when all the pieces are all the same shape, and if they’re all the same color, they don’t make a nice picture, just a blank canvas. We all have a place to fit into this big puzzle as long as we stay the shape we’re supposed to be. When we change what we should be, we ruin the overall picture and don’t fit where we should anymore. Is it any wonder that society is broken and people are miserable?

VIOLENCE and the love/hate relationship we have with it

Yoda said it best when he said that fear leads to anger and anger leads to suffering. It is out of fear of something that we resort to violence. Violence is destructive to the harmony that most of us seek to achieve within society and ourselves. Violence also sells video games and movies faster and better than anything except maybe sex. Humans are a destructive species folks, nothing we can do about it. From the time of neanderthals to the space age, we were born to destroy everything in our path that doesn’t fit what we like or makes us afraid. What do I think? I think that violent video games and movies are a GOOD thing since they give us an outlet for our destructive tendencies that doesn’t shatter what little harmony we’ve accomplished so far (which is damned little). Can violence in schools be stopped? Sure it can, but very few people have gotten the clue of what really causes it.

Just a trivial bit about hair colors

I don’t know if any of you are fans of crime drama shows like “Law & Order” like I am but here’s a trivia bit for you. Isn’t it interesting that on the original “Law & Order” all the ADAs have been female and dark-haired? Kinda strange in a world where blonde is generally considered THE hair color for hot women. Not that I agree with that, mind you. I don’t like blonde hair at all as a general rule. I make exceptions, but not many. Gimme a raven-haired lady anytime!

Why I marked this blog as “adult”

I really do hate having to mark my blog as “adult” but it’ll save me a lot of trouble in the future. I figure I’ll probably rant about sex or some other adult oriented material in the future so I just marked the whole damn thing as adult. Just because some “parents” out there don’t know how to actually watch their children.
