I’m not a Goth and neither are you!

Hi! Since you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed to get updates.

No, I’m not a “Goth”. I’m not even sure what being a “Goth” means anymore. There once was a time I called myself part of the “Goth” community and associated with them. I remember when all it took to be called “Goth” was a predilection for wearing black and maybe a taste for “Goth” style music. Btw, I use the quotes around the word “Goth” because nobody seems to be able to agree what the hell it means anymore. Hell, if you look the word up you wind up looking at examples of architecture or Teutonic history. Why is that do ya think? Hmmm … maybe because the subculture gets it’s name and most of it’s identity from the time period when gothic architecture was popular? I’ve seen more varying examples of people labeled as “Goth” than I care to try and count. You can all go pound sand as far as I’m concerned. I am not now nor was I ever “Goth”. I’ve liked black clothing and dark decor for about 25 years now, long before the label “Goth” was even used. I dig dark ambient and rock music, I almost always play an evil character in video and role-playing games, and I think vampires are pretty cool. I think the night sky is lovely and I have a serious problem with sunlight. These things do not make me “Goth” or “Emo”. Liking a particular music, color, or clothing style does NOT automatically make part of some subculture. Get a clue folks, be yourself and stop concerning yourself with whether or not you fit a particular label. Oh yeah, and to all you peeps out there who think you “know” what a “Goth” is; The Goths were: “One of the Teutonic people who invaded the Roman Empire in the 3rd to 5th centuries”.  I looked it up, just trying to be helpful. They’re pretty much a dead culture. So you like dark imagery and have odd, sometimes macabre tastes in entertainment? Nice to meet ya, I’m into those things too.
