Thank you for coming back! If you haven't yet, please subscribe to our RSS feed to stay up-to-date.

I started writing a new book last night, and it’s coming along fairly well.

Actually, I finished up the 5 art books, and compiled and formatted another 100 page book, then I started writing another book. It’s probably not going to be all that long, I’m aiming for around 100 pages or so, but I got 30 pages written last night, so I feel pretty good about it.

It’s funny, I thought my art was going to be my big thing, and although it did make me a couple hundred dollars, it petered out after that, and hasn’t done much lately. I wrote a whole novel whe I was 12, and back them I thought I was going to be a famous writer someday. I may not get to be famous, but I sure am becoming quite the writer again. With over 100 articles on eHow, and several books going, Maybe it IS what I was meant to do. I guess we’ll have to see how it goes. I’m going to try getting one of the books up for sale today. I’ll post an update if I get it finished.

I have all the pieces in place…

Yup, I have all the pieces in place to be making a good living, now all I have to do is get them all going faster.

I have been writing for eHow for several months now, and that in itself has the potential for a lot of profit. I just need to get people to them, and get them clicking. I’m enjoying writing (I have 118 articles so far), so I know this is one that I can make grow over time.

I have AdSense and CJ ads on the blogs, so that’s another potential source of income.

I have my poetry book up on Kindle and Lulu. Those have the potential to sell, and I have plans for a series of art books, and a how-to manual in the future.

I have downloadable files on PayLoadz. They’re inexpensive, so they should sell well.

I have an Amazon Store full of vampire gear. I figure people from the Vampire’s Lair would like that, and it should be popular at Halloween especially.

I have shops set up at CafePress and Zazzle. We have tons of designs on a massive selection of products. That could easily make a lot of money if the traffic is there.

I think I have more out there than that. I have so much going on that I’m starting to lose track. All I need now is the traffic and the buyers. I’m hoping that those will come soon. I have put a lot of work and effort into all my endeavors, and I really think it’s time for them to pay off. I’m wondering what the hold-up is. I have done the work, I have put myself and my work out there, so where are the people? I guess I just have to have faith that the universe sees all the work I’ve put in, and it starts rearranging things to bring me what I need. I have got the pieces in place for all of it to happen, it just needs a boost. With any luck, Ishould have a livable income soon. I’m praying that it will work quickly, and soon being horribly poor will be a thing of the past, and I can start saving and working toward a much brighter future.

How-to writing is tricky business

When I first started writing for eHow, I didn’t think I was going to get very far. It’s not like I don’t know enough, it was really the matter of turning what I know it a multi-step article. I really struggled with it at first. In my first month I managed to do 16 articles, in the second month, I only came up with 6.

One day while I was sitting at the neurologist’s office waiting for Eric to get his MRI’s done, I came up with an idea. I wrote down every letter in the alphabet in my notebook. I decided I’d try to come up with something for each letter. So I started with “How to A” and got “How to Achieve Your Goals”. I just ran down the list after that. I had to skip some letters and come back to them later, but amazingly enough, it worked! I had a whole list of how-to ideas. After that, ideas came more easily.

Right now I have 114 articles up, 9 more written, and 38 ideas in my book waiting to be written. I’m hoping that I will be able to find the inspiration to write even more. I want this to become a good income line, so I know I need to write a lot of good quality articles to make that happen.

Unfortunately, a lot of the stuff I think of just won’t fit into a how-to with multiple steps. I’ve had to try to come up with things that I can break into steps, or at least a numbered list of tips. I’ve actually converted quite a few of my recipes into eHow format. Recipes make great how-to articles.

I was a bit upset that eHow wouldn’t let me have HTML in my articles. Some time back, Eric and I were going to be teaching a computer course at the local rec center, before they lost their funding. I had written out a basic HTML course for the classes. When I found the notes, I thought it would make a fantastic series of how-to articles. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t allow code in the articles, so I wasted my time writing them. I had 5 written, and more in my head, when I tried to post one and found that it wasn’t allowed.

Right now I’m trying to write up all the ideas that I’ve come up with. I suppose I could stop trying to come up with new things until I’m finished with all the existing ideas, but I’m trying to avoid having a bunch of downtime where there’s nothing going up on the site. With any luck, I can keep a stream of articles flowing onto the site for many months to come, and with them, bring myself a valuable and increasing income stream.

And to think, I wanted to write BOOKS for a living!
