Believe it or not, that’s a quote from a chef on Chopped. Two of the mystery ingredients were leftover foods, and she said she was uncomfortable with them because “We don’t eat leftovers at home. They go in the trash.”
How can anyone be like that? My first thought, of course, goes to all the people starving in the world, many of them right here in the USA. They’d be happy for those leftovers. It’s so wrong to me that people would throw away perfectly good food. What, you’re too good to eat something that’s been reheated?
Add to that the fact that this person must be rich. I mean, you’re not just throwing away food, you’re throwing away money. Leftovers are an extra meal that you’ve already paid for. You can really afford to just throw food out? It must be nice.
We enjoy leftovers here. We even make them on purpose. It’s nice to have something to eat that you didn’t have to pay more for, and it’s easy. Just reheat and there you go. It’s better than having TV dinners around. Way better when you consider that since you cooked the original meal, you know what went into it and you’re not eating a ton of fat, sodium and preservatives.
I can’t wrap my head around people who won’t eat leftovers. I’ve actually met someone who said “Leftovers are gross”. Really? it’s the same thing you thought was great yesterday. How gross can it be? Sure, some things don’t reheat well, but you learn over time.
Are leftovers kept and eaten in your home? Do you think there’s something a little off in the heads of people who throw away good food?
