Despite having a creative mind and being artistic, my visualization skills just aren’t what I’d like them to be. I’m trying to figure out how to improve them so that I can do more than hold a fuzzy image in my mind for a few brief seconds.
Sometimes I wonder if people can actually have full-color, crystal-clear visions in the middle of the day. I have had some amazingly clear and colorful dreams, so there is certainly some truth to it, but visualizing and dreaming are two different states. I suppose it’s all about the individual, and this individual wants to be better at visualizing.
An idea struck me the other night, and I need to try it soon to see if it will work. I was thinking that if I put something in my hand and look at it, then close my eyes and touch it while thinking about the shape, color, texture and so on, it might help me create a better mental image. Perhaps how well it will work for me will depend on how much I think it will work, but I’ll have to get back to you on that after I try it.
Of course, even if it works brilliantly, it will only work for things small enough to hold or touch. It won’t help with visualizing large things, or things I have never experienced. Or will it? maybe my mind will learn the technique and it will open me up to being able to visualize anything I please. That would be pretty amazing.
Are there any techniques that you have personally used to improve your ability to visualize? Please share.
