One of my connections wrote an article about keeping things simple, and it made me think of how Eric calls me “Queen of the Obvious”. Unlike when most people say something like that, from him it’s actually a compliment.
Apparently, I have a knack for seeing the elegant, simple solutions to things. With only a second’s thought I can rattle off some way to do something faster, easier or just in a way that whoever I’m talking to wasn’t thinking of. I don’t know how I do it, but I do it quite often.
Maybe it’s because I’ve come to dislike stress so much over the course of my life. I want things to be as easy and simple as possible. I often take time to figure out the fastest or easiest way to do things. Future instances of that task become a breeze. I’m also good at just winging it, and finding some way to do something that’s brilliantly simple.
So when he says “Thank you Queen Obvious!” it really is in gratitude and appreciation. He’s often feeling just a bit silly too, having a “Why didn’t I think of that?” moment. So now I don’t get offended when he says it. I flash a beaming smile and know that I just made someone’s life a little easier and better.
Are you a Queen/King of the Obvious? (In the good way?)
