I have a variety of little games that I like to play in between writing articles at the end of the day. I have some on my tablet, like Pocket Frogs and Monster Match. Most of the others I play are on MindJolt games online. Electropede is one of my favorites.
It’s a pretty basic game. You have a ship and you use the mouse to move around, kill enemy bugs and collect power-ups. There are no controls at all, you’re always shooting. It’s pretty easy to pick up, but not easy to master and do well at. It took me quite a while to get good enough to find the end of the game, which is at level 21.
You might think that 21 levels isn’t much, but it usually takes me about an hour to play a full run-through. I tend to average about 9.8 million points, but got over 10 million once, and I’m still aiming for first place. I think I’m 3rd in the world right now. Unfortunately, there’s an element of chance involved in getting a good score. If you don’t get enough power-ups, you’re not going to do very well.
You start off with three lives, but I’ve ended the game with anywhere between one and 26 lives. The faster you destroy the strings of bugs, the more power-ups you get, so if you can get some good “slaughter bonus” chains, you can really rack up the points and lives.
This game is a lot of fun, but be warned that the higher levels may cause you to think that this is less of a game and more of a torture event. You’ll wonder how in blue hell they expect you to survive with that many things flying around shooting at you. I have had to nestle my ship in tiny areas and pray to the gaming gods that I’d live long enough to get out. But I still keep playing because I enjoy it so much.
