I get emails for all sorts of causes that I’m involved in, and the one I just read concerning equal rights for girls made me once again wonder, how can gender equality still be an issue?
People have been on this planet for thousands of years. We have learned and grown and changed, and yet some things remain the same, or get worse. I don’t think it’s possible for anyone to be unaware of the huge war on women that’s taking place in the US right now, and it’s as bad or worse in other countries. With all that we know and all that we’ve seen and done over all these generations, how can anyone still believe that one gender is more or less than the other?
The way I see it, all people are created equally. What a person develops between their legs has absolutely no bearing on what they can learn, do or create. Every human has the capacity to achieve anything they want to. Neither men, nor women, nor any other gender is better or more capable than the other. There is no reason whatsoever for women to be treated like they are less than men.
It baffles me that people are still holding on to antiquated ideas of gender supremacy that should have died back in the uneducated times they were formed in. It’s appalling that in this age men are still trying to send women back to the kitchen and the birthing bed. It’s disgusting that there are places on Earth where girls are not allowed to go to school or are married off so young that they die from trauma upon consummation with grown men.
We all, women and men alike, need to make this end. We need to all see each other as the equals that we are. We need to do everything we can to end division based on gender. Equal rights and opportunities for all, because we’re all human. For a species that claims to be so superior and evolved, we need to start acting like it. After this many ages on Earth, we should be able to get past things like this and have equality among all people.
