It’s been a very long time since I did any plaster work, but when I was last at the craft store with some high discount coupons I decided to buy a roll of plaster. I knew that I still had my old mask molds, so it seemed like a good idea to see if I could work with them again. I know I usually do jewelry, but I like making other things as well. I meant to get these photos up last week, but other things kept coming up and I didn’t get to it.

The top photo is one of the masks. The texture isn’t as smooth as I’d like, but after more than 15 years, it’s not really a surprise that I’d forgotten how to make them perfectly. It’s still usable though.

As you can see, the first mask I made had some chips. I used dish soap and alcohol as a mold release and that was a really bad idea. I used petroleum jelly for the others and it worked much better. Even though some of the masks have chips and imperfections, I’m still going to use them. I won’t be able to make the designs I wanted, but I will turn them into something beautiful. I actually have a great idea to make the chips and pits work in my favor. If I can do what I see in my head, it will actually look really cool.

I’m not sure whether I should be working on the masks today or something else. I’m not feeling really inspired for some reason. I really want to be though. I’m so much happier when I’m making things.
